On arrival:
If driving there is ample private parking space directly outside. With a cuppa we'll have a brief chat about your wardrobe/changes and you'll be shown to the changing room where you can relax, prepare and set your stall up. The room is light and equipped with a comfortable chair, wall mirror, clothes hanging rail and a hair dryer. Directly opposite is the bathroom. The studio is next door to the changing room.
What to wear:
Up to 4 top changes. I recommend a minimum of 3. I'd suggest mixing smart and casual. If possible, no low neck lines unless their is a definite look/style in mind. Muted colours work best without logos or patterns, which would only distract from the main focus. Usually I avoid blacks and whites. I prefer no face or ear jewellery for a 'safe' headshot. Don't worry about any creases to your clothes during travel. Ironing facilities are provided.
All this can be discussed before the shoot day, including casting types, outfits and any specific brief.
Hair & Makeup:
Casting Directors expect to see what you naturally look like when you enter the room, like your headshot. I'd suggest only using a minimal amount of make-up where needed. For an actor headshot, if you have long hair, I would suggest either tying it back (hair band), or having behind your ears, keeping away from your face and ears where possible. Your neck line is equally important in a headshot so the less masking of this the better.
Birth marks, moles & scars:
These are permanent features to you and although it sounds visually obvious, unless pointed out to the photographer exactly where these are in the headshot area, these marks can be mistaken for blemishes and thus removed. Please indicate to the photographer where these permanent marks are exactly and which of these permanent marks you would like to remain.
Any blemishes can be easily sorted in post-production. It's a good idea to bring your own styling products, including face powder to deal with any shine on your skin.
Moisturiser and serums:
Please DO NOT apply face moisturiser or any serums to your face within 6 hours before or during the headshot session. If you turn up with this applied the headshot session will not go ahead and you will be charged a cancellation fee. Please read: T&C's page.
Facial hair. You can shave during the shoot if you are after more variety.
The shoot:
My home studio is modern, quiet and informal. Although it has plenty of natural light I prefer to use continuous studio (daylight balanced) lighting where I can control and craft with continuity and reliability.
I often listen to clients anxiety and confidence concerns when they are in front of the camera. Don't worry. This is not about getting the perfect shot or look. It's about you relaxing, enjoying the space and letting me see different aspects of your personality.
An adult headshot session usually lasts 1.5 hours with a 2 hour window allocated.
A student 18 years old and under headshot session usually lasts 1 hour with a 1.5 hours window allocated.

You'll receive an email with a gallery link to view the session shots the same day. You simply make a shortlist of your favourites. It's recommended that you sleep on this and review again with fresh eyes and mind another day. After finally deciding on your final 4 selection, email the shortlist directly from the gallery or email from your personal email account the jpg numbers displayed with each image to info@haringtonheadshots.com.
